AT-HM in Practice: Funding, Prescriptions and Documentation for OTs

You complete the assessment and submit your report, but what happens next?

One year into Support at Home, Occupational Therapists continue to encounter significant grey areas in the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications Scheme.

Participants may commence services without adequate AT-HM funding. Existing tiers may not meet the identified need. Trials and quotes may be required before a final recommendation can be made, while providers may need evidence before additional funding can be requested. Once a report is submitted, inconsistent processes and lengthy delays can also leave OTs unsure whether recommendations have progressed, or whether they remain clinically appropriate by the time funding becomes available.

These issues create difficult questions for OTs:

• What can you provide when no AT-HM approval exists?
