Around two in three Australians living with vision loss are aged over 65. Many are referred to Occupational Therapists after vision changes begin affecting everyday occupations, such as preparing meals, managing medications, preventing falls, reading correspondence, or accessing the community.

Under the new Support at Home program and Aged Care Quality Standards, providers are expected to support older people to remain safe, independent, and engaged in meaningful daily activities.

Because vision has a significant impact on occupational performance, Occupational Therapists are ideally positioned to identify previously unrecognised vision-related barriers and implement practical interventions that improve function and reduce risk.
